About Desert Mountain
ABOUT DESERT MOUNTAIN
Where in the world will you find a great community that offers six Jack Nicklaus Signature golf courses and now a seventh? Try Far North Scottsdale. In the mid-1980’s, Lyle Anderson and his group looked at 8,000 acres of arid grazing land nestled at the base of Apache Peak and envisioned a community surrounding extraordinary golf courses. His vision has come true.
In 1987, the Renegade course opened and luxury homes became available at Sunrise, the first village of custom home sites within Desert Mountain. There are 4 other Jack Nicklaus Signature courses within the complex, and a links course, Outlaw, that was built just outside the back gate and is surrounded by open spaces.
The newest addition to Desert Mountain is 7, the seventh golf course and clubhouse. The course is an 18-hole, par 54 executive course that will wind through the new homes being built within 7. The clubhouse is open, modern and multiple glass walls allow you to soak up the views. 7 offers a lighted putting course, a bocce ball court and a large firepit for cooler evenings.
Golf is not the only draw for Desert Mountain. There is a wonderful tennis complex adjacent to the newly remodeled Sonoran Fitness Center and Spa and the pickleball courts are a great and fun new addition. There are miles of trails for horseback riding, biking or hiking, plus a new ‘glamping’ facility.
Resale homes, as well as new custom homes, are available at Desert Mountain. Desert Mountain has a wonderful mixture of homes, from attached cottages to large custom homes. The Sonoran area and Apache Cottages offer two to three bedroom attached homes that are wonderful units for the part-time homeowner. They are easy to “lock and leave” as Desert Mountain is a multi-gated community with guarded gates. Each village is distinct in its style, but they all share the wonderful amenities of Desert Mountain. Because Desert Mountain is located so far north, the views from this fabulous community are hard to beat.
Desert Mountain Golf and Lifestyle
THE DESERT MOUNTAIN LIFESTYLE AND GOLF CLUB
As mentioned before, Desert Mountain is home to six award-winning Jack Nicklaus golf courses, multiple practice facilities and seven clubhouses. The seventh course a par 54, aptly named 7, was designed by two Desert Mountain members and opened in the Spring of 2019.
Renegade Golf Course and Clubhouse
Starting from the bottom of the mountain is the Renegade course. It is 7,524 yards and was the first course open at Desert Mountain. Each hole has two pin placements to change the level of difficulty as desired. Renegade features a very large practice facility.
The Hideaway is the restaurant at the Renegade Course. It is open for breakfast and lunch and is situated overlooking the practice facilities.
Apache Golf Course and Clubhouse
The Apache course is a par-72 course with 7,211 yards. It is centrally located north of the Renegade course.
The Apache Clubhouse is home to the Apache Steakhouse featuring the highest grade of beef. Open throughout the year, it is also the venue for the wine dinners hosted by some of the top global winemakers.
Cochise and Geronimo Golf Courses and Clubhouse
The Cochise and Geronimo courses are found further up the hill and converge upon the lovely Cochise/Geronimo Clubhouse.
The Cochise course is 7,019 yards and has been and will be the host course for the Schwab Cup for the next couple of years.
The Geronimo course is a 7,420 yard course that twists and turns through the natural elevations and landscape of the Sonoran Desert.
The Cochise/Geronimo Clubhouse is the center of the two golf courses, the driving ranges and the social focal point for club activities. In addition to the dining room is the Sunset Terrace which is utilized for private parties, weddings and meetings.
Chiricahua Golf Course and Clubhouse
Chiricahua is the course at the “top of the mountain.” It is a par-72 course with 7,197 yards and it opened in 1999.
The Chiricahua Clubhouse is a beautiful Tuscan-designed clubhouse that is home to Constantino’s Restaurant which serves high-end Italian fare. From the dining room or the plaza you will enjoy breathtaking views of the valley.
Outlaw Golf Course and Clubhouse
Outlaw is a spectacular links course outside Desert Mountain’s gates. It is located to the east of Cave Creek Road and offers some spectacular natural views.
The Outlaw Clubhouse offers a variety of menus. It is one of the most relaxed of all the clubhouse dining areas and is the site of many outdoor music performances.
Seven Golf Course and Clubhouse
Seven is the newest addition to Desert Mountain’s golf course line up. Seven is its own standalone community and the 18-hole, par 54 course was designed by two of Desert Mountain’s members, Bill Brownlee and Wendell Pickett.
The clubhouse is modern and open with lots of glass to showcase the beautiful views. The menu is upscale casual and the open kitchen allows you to watch the culinary team at work. Outside, you will find a lighted putting area, bocce ball and a large firepit.
Beautiful new homes are being built throughout the 90 acre parcel.
The Sonoran Clubhouse and Fitness Center
The 42,000 square foot Sonoran Clubhouse and Fitness Center, which underwent a major update, is centrally located within Desert Mountain. The complex includes notable tennis facilities featuring grass, clay and composition surfaces.
The swimming area has a lap pool, a baby pool and a large community pool with hot tub.
The expanded fitness center features top-of-the-line fitness equipment, plus private rooms for aerobics, yoga, and spinning and more. The expanded Spa offers massages as well as facials and other beauty treatments.
The Sonoran has also added a restaurant called Cafe Verde that replaced the snack bar. Offerings include fitness and protein options as well as a full-service menu with offerings like burgers, salads and sushi.
The Sonoran has also added some new outdoor pursuits including pickleball, croquet and a new and improved playground.
