Need access to a computer? The Desert Foothills Library has over twenty computers (desktops and laptops) that the community can use. There is also free wi-fi in the library and the terrace area.
There is a very extensive event calendar than spans from visiting authors, to support groups, to historical talks, to health and fitness classes, financial planning seminars and more. Most of these events are complimentary and others charge a nominal fee. Earlier this week, the New York Times bestselling author J.A. Jance was in residence to speak.
The Chapter 2 Used Bookstore is located at the Desert Foothills Library and holds regular book sales, including hardbacks, paperbacks and audio books. Proceeds from these sales go to support the library.
If you have not had the opportunity to utilize this great local resource yet, it is definitely worth exploring.
P.S- As an added service, the Desert Foothills Library processes passport applications. Reservations are recommended, but it is a very smooth process!

The inventory of homes for sale continued its decline in August. Compared to the same time last year, the number of active listings is down 14%. And, when compared to the end of July 2015, there are 7% fewer homes for sale.
August’s median list price for homes for sale in Scottsdale came in at just over $750,000.
Days on market, or DOM, is an indicator of how quickly home are selling or not selling. It calculates the number of days from when the home went onto the market until it closed. As you would expect, a small days on market figure indicates an active market and a higher figure means that the market is a bit slower.
In August, the median sales price of homes in Scottsdale was $462,500.
This last section covers home sales in the month of August.
However, as you can see, the number of home sales dropped over 20% compared to July 2015. As noted in last’s months report, home sales in July were particularly strong. That strong sales activity combined with the seasonal slowdown explains the large dropoff.
August was a quiet month for the Phoenix and Scottsdale luxury condo market. There was only a single sale over the month.
Over the course of dinner, I learned that the Brazilian owner and his family had owned a huge fishing camp back in Brazil that people from all over the world came to visit and to try their luck on the Amazon River. The restaurant itself is inspired by the owner’s father, who had a great love of food and created many memorable dishes over the years.
The final item we tried that night was the Bobo de Camarão and it was spectacular. The shrimp and rice came with a sauce made from 
The space itself is open and contemporary. There is a lounge area with couches and seating up front with large glass panels that can be opened when the weather is cooler. There is a central bar and behind that is the more traditional restaurant seating.
For my entrée, I selected the Seafood Cobb salad, which came with a generous amount of lump crab meat and some grilled shrimp. In addition to the seafood, there was also avocado, blue cheese and a hard-boiled egg.
