Scottsdale Events: The 2014 Rugby Bowl
Scottsdale is already well-known for its golf, hiking, biking and outdoor living in general. This April 12th, it will be bringing rugby into the mix with the first annual Rugby Bowl- Spikes and Spokes.
The Rugby Bowl is being brought to you by the folks who put together the Polo Party- Horses and Horsepower events that take place in the Fall. In the case of The Rugby Bowl, a different kind of horsepower is going to be featured. This time, motorcycles and custom bikes of all designs will be on display.
The event is being held at WestWorld and will be featuring a game between the nationally-ranked Arizona State University team and the number one ranked college team in the nation, Brigham Young University. It promises to be an exciting match-up.
On April 12th, the gates will open at 11:30AM. The match itself will be played at 1:10PM. And at the end of the match, there will be an onsite party with live music from Whiskey’s Quicker and The Keltic Cowboys. During the entire event, attendees will be able to explore all of the bikes on display and there will be a “World of Beer Garden.”
What is going to be fun is to see how many spectators take the organizers up on the Bring Your Own Couch offer. According to the website, there is a tradition in New Zealand of people bringing old couches to rugby games to watch the action from. The Rugby Bowl is welcoming couches in the general admission area.
A variety of ticket options are available. General admission is $12 in advance or $18 at the door. Youth tickets for ages 7 to 14 are $8 each. Military personnel with I.D. will have free admission. Bikers who come and display their bikes and make a $5 charitable donation will also get in free. Tailgating slots on the field range from $85 to $170 per car. And, there are also a variety of tent ticket options ranging from $22 on up.
This should be a fun event and it will be a great way to get more folks exposed to the exciting and action-packed sport of rugby!
