– Scottsdale Events: Meet the Masters Celebration 2013 –
The Scottsdale Design Center was the perfect venue this past week for the Meet the Masters Celebration sponsored by Phoenix Home & Garden magazine. The annual event honored the outstanding artists of the Southwest and gave guests the opportunity to meet the six finalists.
The event also gave attendees the opportunity to tour the Design Center in Scottsdale and meet the owners of the various showrooms in a casual atmosphere. Many people are under the impression that the Design Center is only open “to the trade.” However, it is actually open to the public who can come in and tour the various displays and vendors.
Attendees were fascinated with the intricate stained glass masterpieces done by Chris Powers, one of the award winners. His work is detailed, colorful and so very pleasing to the eye.
As I browsed the center, I was particularly taken with the tasteful and unique items offered by Earth and Images. Isabel Dellinger, the owner, was on hand to welcome each and every one of us as we entered their showroom which is filled with carefully hand-chosen items. Some of my favorites were the small, unique “El Dia de Los Muertos” sculptures crafted by Mexican artists.
Jeff Smith, of Goodall Wood Creations, showed off the versatility and uniqueness of their contemporary kitchen for us. And for those who choose a more elegant setting – yes, this armoire is a double sided refrigerator.
The Gravity Glas Design showroom was filled with unique items, such as this glass and metal washbasin. And just down the hall I was able to observe Chris Powers, who I mentioned at the beginning of this post., as he explained how he had done the intricate stained glass pieces on display.
Throughout the evening we were entertained by LauRha as she played the saxophone and an intricate zither given to her as a gift many years ago. In addition to music, LauRha is an accomplished artist.
There are so many great vendors at the Scottsdale Design Center and I’ve only touched on a few of the interesting and unique showrooms I had to opportunity to view. Remember, they are open to the public and welcome everyone, so if you find yourself with some free time or are looking for design ideas, head on over.
