This project is now complete.
As of September 24, 2012 the City of Scottsdale will be starting a major project on North Scottsdale Road between Adobe and Pinnacle Peak Roads. This project is going to have a huge of impact on traffic, particularly over the next several months. The entire project is slated to be complete in October 2013.
The final goal of all of these improvements will include three lanes of traffic on each side of Scottsdale Road, up to the Pinnacle Peak intersection, the relocation of utility lines and a bridge over the Rawhide wash just south of Pinnacle Peak. You will also see nice upgrades such as a public art installation, nicely landscaped medians and other design elements to enhance the natural beauty of the area.
The project will take place in two phases. The first phase will focus on the intersection of North Scottsdale Road and Pinnacle Peak Road and traffic will be restricted to a single lane in each direction between Adobe and Pinnacle Peak. Phase two will have two lanes of traffic in each direction for this same section of road.
Construction will be taking place from 6 AM to 6 PM Monday through Friday and there will be some nighttime construction him to help minimize disruption to traffic flows in this heavily traveled area.
KEY ITEMS & DATES TO NOTE:
- As of September 24th, Scottsdale Road will be narrowed to a single lane in each direction between Adobe and Pinnacle Peak Road. This will run through December 2012.
- There will be no left turns at the intersection of Scottsdale Road and Pinnacle Peak through October 2012.
- Silverstone Drive, which is used to access the Appaloosa Library and Vi at Silverstone will be closed for approximately one year. To access the library or Vi, you’ll need to go via Williams Drive or take Pinnacle Peak to 74th St. Here is a map to access Appaloosa Library during construction.
I’ve attached a few links below for more information about the project. And, if you like, there is an area to sign up for the construction newsletter to track the project as it happens.
The North Scottsdale Road and Pinnacle Peak Road intersection is a major intersection and traffic is bound to be difficult over the next several months. You might want to take alternate roads like Pima, Miller or Tatum.
The good news is at the end of the project, Scottsdale Road will be wider, it will be beautifully landscaped including an art installation, and the new bridge will help with water drainage issues.
