– Scottsdale Dining – Diego Pops –
We recently had lunch at Diego Pops in Old Town Scottsdale and enjoyed our casual, but tasty, meal immensely.
The vibe I felt there was “happy.” Perhaps it is the bright pink and font of the sign or the whimsical decor throughout, but immediately after walking in, I was in a better mood.
We were able to get a table on the patio and the weather was perfect. Besides the indoor and patio seating, there is an indoor/outdoor bar area with plenty of screens that are perfect for catching various games being televised.
The menu is Tex Mex with a modern twist. You have botanas to start with, such as queso, wings and soup, as well as a selection of raw starters like ceviche and poke. From there, you can choose from a taco menu (a la carte or in a larger bowl format), a salad menu, a variety of burritos and even a Tex Mex style hot dog. If you still have room, they have a super fun dessert menu with a selection of creative sundaes, choco tacos and churro fries.
We started with the chips, guacamole and salsa from the botanas menu. The guacamole was freshly made and flavorful and the salsa hit the right notes. From there, we sampled the Chicken Tortilla Soup, which was hearty and delicious. We also tried the Cod Tacos with Slaw, (fantastic), as well as a Sweet Corn and Avocado Caesar with Chicken, which was equally as good.
We truly enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere at Diego Pops. Our server was friendly and made a point to make sure we did not need anything else. Overall, this is a fun, little place that we plan to return to often for creative plays on Tex Mex.
