– Scottsdale Dining: Spiga Cucina in North Scottsdale –
A while back, I visited Spiga Cucina Italiana when it had recently opened. That night we opted for appetizers in the bar and enjoyed ourselves and the meal.
We recently took a client back to Spiga for dinner and had an equally great experience.
It was a nice evening, so we opted to sit on the spacious patio. After getting settled, we were brought bread and instead of butter or olive oil and vinegar, it came with a mediterranean bean spread. It was a nice change and a good way to start off the meal.
We started with the Calamari di Sara. The perfectly fried calamari was paired with arugula and two tasty sauces. The first was a tomato remoulade and the other was a caper vinaigrette.
For entrees we opted for a couple of Spiga’s pasta offerings. The first was the Spaghetti Pomodoro, which was a traditional pomodoro with tomatoes, garlic and basil. It was expertly prepared. The other pasta dish was Liguini Nero, a seafood pasta dish with squid ink pasta. There was a large variety of seafood, including shrimp, scallops, calamari, clams and mussels. Another excellent dish.
The final entrée we ordered was the Pollo Arrosto. The roasted chicken came with crispy skin and it was served over smashed baby potatoes and finished off with pan jus and vegetables. This was another case where a dish with seemingly simple ingredients shined. Plus, there was so much chicken, we were able to being half of it home for another meal.
As we experienced on our last visit, the owner made the rounds and came to personally check on us to see if we were enjoying ourselves and our meals.
And, as we experienced the last time, service was amazing. Alexandra was taking care of us that evening and was a standout.
Spiga is open daily for lunch and dinner and is definitely worth a visit!
