– Chocolade van Brugge – Chocolate Decadence in Old Town Scottsdale –
UPDATE MAY 2017: Chocolade van Brugge has closed.

I had heard about Chocolade van Brugge when it opened and was thrilled to see such a great addition to Old Town. As luck would have it, I found a parking spot right in front of it a couple of weeks ago.
Chocolate van Brugge serves traditional, hand-crafted Belgian chocolates and much more. The owner is originally from Bruges who has had a lifelong passion for Belgian chocolate. He and his wife left corporate America to open this store in late 2013.
They are the exclusive importers of these incredible chocolates, cookies, marzipan and chocolate figurines. There are almost 100 varieties to choose from.
Upon walking in, your eyes are drawn to the cases of exquisite chocolates and delicacies. Perfect art-like pieces are arranged on shelf after shelf. There were white chocolate options, milk chocolate options and dark chocolate options. I was excited to start picking some of them out.
Basically, you can order as many as you would like, but they do offer specific sizes and pricing for various ballotin boxes. (These are the boxes where you can nestle the chocolate in the box and then tuck the top in.) Even through I wanted to try more, I ordered the 4 piece ballotin. Each piece we tasted was heavenly and they disappeared quickly. The boxes go up to 32 pieces.
A newer addition to the menu was the liege waffles they now serve. These are sweet waffles made with brioche dough and imported Belgian sugar. The also have a waffle trailer to take these delicious waffles on the road to various events.
Other offerings include Belgian hot chocolate, coffee and more.
If you cannot make it to Old Town Scottsdale, you are able to order many of their items via the website, including the waffles.
Some other innovative offerings include dipping parties where you can go ‘fondue style’ and dip a variety of items into melted Belgian chocolate as well as tasting parties where they partner with local beer and wine purveyors.
The good news is you can enjoy Chocolade van Brugge even if you do not live in town. But, if you are able to, I would suggest heading to the store to see all of the beautiful offerings in person.
