– The 2014 Scottsdale Polo Party –
The weekend of October 25 and 26th 2014 brought the 4th Annual Horses and Horsepower Polo event to town. As in previous years, the event was held at WestWorld in North Scottsdale and showcased spectacular automobiles, amazing polo matches and more.
On the Friday before the event, I attended a VIP Reception at Molina Jewelers on Camelback Road in Phoenix to meet and greet the team from Wales and the Molina’s Women’s Team. Molina was one of the major sponsors of the event and they once again outdid themselves. The Molina Women’s World All Star Team features notable players including Sunny Hale, Sarah Wiseman, Paola Martinez and Caroline Anier.
I attended the Polo Event on Saturday and watched a match featuring the team of young men from Wales (the Bentley Scottsdale Clogau Wales Polo Team) play against Molina’s top female players in the world. It was a fabulous match with lots of scoring at either end of the field. And just observing the power and beauty of the horses was absolutely majestic.
As always, the venue around the polo fields was filled with booths offering diverse items for sale, a fabulous Lamborghini and Ferrari collection, plus many unique one-of-a-kind automobiles that will be featured in the next Barrett Jackson Car Auction. Added to that was the Porsche Concours d’Elegance which was also part of the event last year.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was a Canine Couture fashion show presented by the Applewood Pet Resort. Take a look at these two sisters – aren’t they something? They were just two of about forty dogs of all breeds that had been decked out for an afternoon at the polo matches.
This year, another feature of the two day event was a contemporary art auction by the Larsen Gallery. Over 400 registered bidders vied for the chance to purchase more than 200 spectacular works of art from the prestigious gallery. A preview party for the bidders was held prior to the event, and the auction itself took place on Saturday. This was a new attraction for this event and judging by the large participation of registered bidders (from 40 states and 12 countries), I think we will see it again next year.
We had a wonderful time at the 2014 event and look forward to the 5th annual event in 2015!
