– Family Friendly Things to Do in Scottsdale: The Rainforest Mirror Maze at Odysea in the Desert Scottsdale –
I’ve written before on the new entertainment area in Scottsdale just east of Hwy 101 and Via de Ventura called Odysea in the Desert. Odysea opened the Butterfly Wonderland pavilion last fall and it already has attracted thousands of people. (Click here to read my post on the Butterfly Wonderland.) When Odysea is complete, it will have an aquarium, and IMAX theater, retail, dining and so much more.
Odysea has now added another attraction next door called the Mirror Maze. It’s amazing and fun for all ages and has a rainforest theme. You enter a very dark hallway that leads to mirrored walls and from there, there is only one way to get through. That is, unless you get to one of the areas where you turn 360 degrees only to find you are in a blind alley.
Jungle animal noises surround you – animal screeches and snake hisses and more. At one point, you cross over on a bridge that feels like it may collapse at any moment. It is all very lifelike and feels real. Ultimately, you end up on a brightly colored wheel that slowly rotates – giving you many choices for your next steps toward the exit.
Throughout your journey, you are also seeking two elusive butterflies that magically appear before you.
A friendly warning to parents – There is a candy wall that surpasses anything I’ve ever seen. They have jelly beans, sugar rock candy and other inventive sweet treats. You may have a hard time getting out of there without buying something…
In addition, birthday or special event parties may be hosted here in special rooms adjacent to the maze. The mirror maze is great fun and reasonably priced. For instance, you can purchase an all-day ticket for $9.95 and go through as many times as you want. It is open every day from 9 AM to 5 PM.
Overall, I had a great time walking the mirror maze at Odysea. It’s not just for kids!
