Rarely do I enjoy a “lunch place” for dinner as much or a “dinner place” for lunch as much, but Zinc Bistro actually fits the bill for this one. Zinc Bistro located in Kierland Commons in Scottsdale, Arizona has delicious food regardless of which meal you are eating.
As you approach the charming restaurant, you note that it has an excellent location in the heart of Kierland. It is found in the central section on the corner and has ample outdoor seating if you are in the mood to people watch or just enjoy the nice weather. Indoors, the feel is of a French bistro, with a long bar along one wall. There are some booths that line the other walls, freestanding tables and even a greenery-filled open-air patio off of the back.
The food at Zinc Bistro is in a word, delicious. We have never had a bad or even mediocre meal there. Over the years, we have had the chance to sample many menu items and here are some of the standouts. For lunch or dinner, be sure to try the authentic onion soup gratinee with a thick crust of melted gruyere cheese. For lunch, some items that we have tried and enjoyed are the Crab and Mushroom Crepe, the mussels with matchstick fries, the crab luncheon salad, the duck confit sandwich, the chicken curry sandwich, and my all-time favorite, the chicken and brie sandwich. (I have to say, the chicken and brie sandwich may be the best sandwich I have ever eaten. It is definitely not low-fat or low-calorie, but if you want to treat yourself to something delicious, try it.)
Some of the dinner choices we have really enjoyed are selections from the raw bar (also available at lunch), the mussels (again), the Scottish Salmon and the Sugarcane Ahi. We also really enjoy the asparagus with lemon as a side. We also had a chance to dine during Arizona Restaurant Week and they had the greatest salmon tartare appetizer. I asked the server if that is on the menu often, and he said they do have it now and again. If you are a salmon fan, definitely order it if you see it.
To take advantage of the delicious broths and sauces, be sure to ask for some bread for the table. The baguettes they serve are crispy and chewy and is some of the best bread I have had in Arizona.
If you are someone who enjoys soufflés, be sure to order a chocolate or lemon soufflé to finish off your meal. Both flavors are excellent.
Overall, Zinc Bistro is an excellent choice for lunch or dinner. The food is great, service is professional and attentive and the great location makes it a fun place to dine.
