Forest Highlands is one of Flagstaff’s premier luxury golf communities. It sits just south of Flagstaff on Route 89A and was developed in the mid-1980’s.
Forest Highlands is a guard-gated community and offers a large number of amenities. The community has two clubhouses, Canyon and Meadow, two private golf courses, swimming pools, a tennis complex, a fitness center, miles of trails, stocked fishing ponds and more. Membership to the golf courses comes with the purchase of property.
The Summer Recreation program at Forest Highlands is excellent. Day camps are offered to the homeowners for their children and grandchildren. The camp is located adjacent to the Meadow swimming pool, has a playground area attached, and is within walking distance of the sports park. The sports park has areas for volleyball, basketball, fishing and a large playing field used for the various sports activities like soccer.
Forest Highlands is a popular summer destination for families coming from Scottsdale, Phoenix and other Valley cities. For the most part, it is a quick 2 hour drive from many areas in the Valley – perfect for weekend getaways. However, Forest Highlands is seeing more and more full-time residents. Quick and easy access to the towns of Flagstaff and Sedona, shopping, and the Flagstaff airport make it a desirable place to live
Forest Highlands Golf
There are two excellent, private golf courses at Forest Highlands. The first, the Canyon Course was designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish. It consistently ranks among the top 100 courses in the world by Golf Magazine and was rated by Golf Digest as the #1 private course in Arizona. In November 2010, it was voted the 19th “Best Residential Course” nationwide by Golfweek magazine.
The Canyon Course name is an apt one as it was designed around a deep canyon that contains the 9th, 17th and 18th holes.Many of the challenging and scenic holes provide panoramic views of the San Francisco peaks, rippling brooks and lakes.
The second course at Forest Highlands is the Meadow Course. It was designed by Tom Weiskopf and opened in 1999. The Meadow course has a more gentle terrain and features lots of lakes. It is a great course to walk.
Both the Canyon and Meadow courses have their own pro shop, driving range and putting green. In addition there is an 18 hole putting course located in the Canyon area and a newly upgraded practice area near the Meadow Clubhouse.
