One of my favorite things to do if I have a spare moment is to drop in at one of the many furniture consignment stores that one can find throughout Scottsdale. I currently don’t need any furniture, but I’m always fascinated by the scope and variety of items people are “recycling” through consignment.
One of my favorites that I pass frequently is the Fabulous Finds Consignment store. I have always enjoyed visiting this particular store as it is so well organized.
They have one area specifically for items of a little greater value that are considered antiques. One can find solid brass candlesticks, serving pieces, wooden desks and tables and other items of this nature.
Furniture pieces are grouped throughout, plus books, china, silver and glassware. Their displays are attractive and the aisles are wide enough to provide a comfortable atmosphere while you are browsing.
You can’t miss the showroom that is dedicated to tables and chairs. It’s a huge, open area, and each table is beautifully set with dinnerware, centerpieces and glassware. Everything is for sale, of course.
But the eye-opener on August 24th, with the outside temperature well over 100 degrees, was the Christmas decor everywhere. Each year they fully decorate trees and the customer has the option of buying the entire tree, or just buying ornaments and ribbons to create their own style of tree. There are shelves of small figures and villages for a railroad Christmas scene, ornaments, Christmas cards, ribbons, Christmas stockings – if it’s Christmas related, they have it.
I spoke to the manager and she said they had already sold a number of decorated trees this year and had people coming in daily to get their Christmas ornaments. The best part is that all of these items, including the decorated trees, sell for 50-75% under retail value.
Even if you’re not in the market for anything specific, I’d recommend you stop in and take a look. One never knows when you’ll be looking for that special item, and this would be a great place to start.
